Match the texture
In visible areas, coordinate the surface textures, as a finely sanded Sand tile and a lightly textured Planet tile will appear different upon closer inspection despite both being in the white mineral fibre category. In back-of-house areas, a close match within the AMF range is typically sufficient. Since the tiles share height and edge, the practical risk in mixing is visual rather than dimensional.
Account for colour and ageing
Tiles that have been installed for years can turn slightly yellow, which means that even an identical current product will look brighter initially. If this is done in a partial refresh in an area that is highly visible, it may be quite obvious. Instead of mixing different individual new tiles with old ones, replacing one entire contiguous section (all tiles in one bay or run) will integrate the finish much better.
